What is the SAR?
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit, United State 501(c)3, corporation that seeks to maintain and extend:
* the institution of American freedom
* an appreciation for true patriotism
* a respect for our national symbols
* the value of American Citizenship
* the unifying force of e pluribus unum that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.
The SAR is a "lineage" society. This means that each of our members have traced their family tree back to an ancestor who
supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774 - 1783 by either: rendering military service in the continental army or navy, state armies or navies, in the local militias or as a privateer, by giving supplies, money, or by rendering civil and other patriotic services. SAR members include fifteen presidents of the United States, generals, ambassadors, members of the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Congress, small businessmen, doctors, lawyers, school teachers, CPAs, elected local, and state officials, government employees, students, factory workers, miners, farmers, ranchers and loggers, all of whom have a deep affection for America, its heritage and institutions.
